On the eve of the National Holiday Tanya Todorova – Director of the Regional History Museum in Razgrad, opened in the Ethnographic Museum an exhibition of weapons and documents of the Russian and Turkish armies, as well as the Bulgarian militia, took an active part in hostilities during the Russo-Turkish War 1877 -1878

“I congratulate the museum specialists for another great initiative. And this time, on the eve of the National Holiday March 3, they in a modern and attractive way show us unique relics of the numerous and diverse examples of our cultural and historical heritage of the Razgrad region, which are stored in the museum”, said in his speech acting the position of mayor of Razgrad Dobrin Dobrev. “It is important that the local government and the state take more care and create conditions for these exhibits to be stored properly and, accordingly, the opportunity for more exhibitions, which once again, and once again to prove to ourselves and our guests how rich history and artifacts are our lands “, added D. Dobrev.

The General Secretary of the regional administration Mihail Todorov was also present at the opening.

The exhibition includes 40 unique movable cultural values from the museum’s collection: Krinka, Berdana 1 and Berdana 2 rifles – widely used by the Russian army; “Peabody-Martini” rifles, “Henry Martin”, “Snyder” model (in service with the Turkish army), “Remington” carbine, “Lefosche” revolver, the Shaspo rifle widely used by the Bulgarian militia, examples of hand-to-hand combat as Russian military sword “Chrysostom”, richly inlaid Turkish scimitars, a sheath with a scabbard, a silver cartridge case, a mold for pouring bullets and others.

There are 14 panels illustrating the actions of the Danube Army with one of the units – Eastern Detachment, whose units liberate the quadrangle Ruse-Silistra-Varna-Shumen, including Razgrad and Razgrad region.

A unique illustration from the museum’s collection shows what Razgrad looked like on the eve of the war.

The exhibition is realized by the Deputy Director Daniela Gancheva and museum specialists, with the assistance of the artist and curator of the exhibition Teodor Daskalov – a member of the Museum Council.

The exhibition “Russian-Turkish War – Weapons and Documents” can be seen at the Ethnographic Museum until March 31.

And on March 3 – the National Holiday of Bulgaria, residents and guests of Razgrad can see it from 9.30 AM to 5 PM for free.
