On October 21, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., the exhibition “Mistress of Clay”—dedicated to the life and work of Eli Nedelcheva (1961–2011)—opened at the Art Gallery in Elena. Presented by the Regional History Museum in Razgrad, the exhibition showcases the artistic legacy of the ceramicist from Razgrad, offering the public in Elena an opportunity to experience her unique creative world.

Born in Razgrad, Eli Nedelcheva combines her professional experience as a ceramics restorer with the pursuit of her own artistic voice. A student of the master craftsman Petar Gigov, she draws inspiration from the traditions of Busintsi ceramics, developing a distinctive style that weaves together inherited artistic mastery, sensitivity, and imagination.

At the opening, the artist’s ability to transform clay—a natural material—into an expression of creative individuality and emotion was highlighted. In her welcoming remarks, Prof. Rositsa Angelova PhD, Head of the Department of Modern and Contemporary History at the Regional Historical Museum (RHM) in Razgrad, emphasized the importance of museum exhibitions in preserving and promoting cultural heritage, as well as their role in bringing the work of significant figures to new audiences.

“Eli Nedelcheva does not merely shape the clay. She imbues it with character, transforms it into a figure, and leaves a piece of herself within it. That is why today, as we stand before her works, we encounter not just her art—we encounter her, preserved within the very material she loved”, was the message addressed to those present.

The exhibition’s visit to Elena is part of the efforts of the Regional History Museum – Razgrad to promote artistic heritage and create new opportunities for art to meet the public.

Although Eli Nedelcheva passed away in 2011, her works continue to preserve the memory of her talent and creative individuality. Each new encounter with them offers an opportunity to rediscover her artistic world and pass it on to future generations.

“Clay is earth, but in the hands of a creator, it transforms into art. And when the soul of a talented person is poured into it, that art becomes a memory that time cannot take away.”
