On June 8, an exhibition of tapestries entitled “Magic created with threads” opened at the “Ananie Yavashov” House Museum in Razgrad. It was organized by the Regional History Museum with the support of Ms. Diana Dacheva – leader of the tapestry masters from Razgrad and organizer of their public events.
The exhibition was opened by Prof. Rositsa Angelova PhD, Head of the Department of “New and Recent History” at the museum, who emphasized that the exhibition is the result of many hours of work and perseverance, and that women tapestry masters are bearers of cultural memory. Prof. Angelova pointed out that the museum provides a platform for all women who express themselves creatively.
Diana Dacheva, for her part, pointed out that the tapestry is a story, an emotion, a piece of our soul. 30 Razgrad tapestry masters participate in the exhibition, presenting 70 works. The exposition is arranged by the museum designer Mihail Marinov.
The predominant themes are several. The female images, as carriers of emotion, captivate with grace and etherealness. Some of them are complemented by hats with flowers – a combination that fascinates. One of the female images, embroidered by Radka Petrova – “Girl with Apples”, is based on a painting by Vladimir Dimitrov – the Master. Many of the tapestries are thematically dedicated to beautiful flowers or beloved animals. Others are landscape compositions – Evdokia Belcheva is presented with “A Country Yard” based on a painting by Bozhidar Chantarski.
An interesting highlight of the exhibition are the embroideries – several tapestry masters have created spectacular embroideries – Meglena Miteva, Snezhana Arabadzhieva, Anelia Koseva. The embroideries are based on schemes by Elisaveta Yordanova, who has a unique style. There are also tapestries with a plot – Iliana Georgieva “A Village Thought”, Katerina Ilieva “A Girl on a Rock”, Irena Ivanova “Bakery”. Dozens of Razgrad residents who attended the opening gathered to admire the exquisite tapestries. The exhibition shows maturity, craftsmanship, and a perfectly mastered embroidery technique. It is obvious that the Razgrad tapestry masters work hard on both the works and themselves. This is how they have achieved the most difficult thing – to recreate on the tapestry the spirituality, vitality, and magic of living life.
