Over 200 children from the PS “I. S. Turgenev” in Razgrad literally took over the ancient Abritus this week. All of them – girls and boys from 1st to 3rd grade – participated in the National Program “Bulgaria – Educational Routes” and chose the final for them to be in the Regional History Museum.
For four days – from Monday to today, led by museum educator Hristo Hristov and designer Mihail Marinov, they embarked on unforgettable adventures, immersing themselves in the life and lifestyle of the ancient people who once inhabited Abritus.
In addition to listening to the educational talks of the time, the children looked for treasures, and when they found them, like good citizens, they handed them over for safekeeping in the museum. They answered questions on an illustrated quiz, shot a bow, jumped with sacks, pulled a rope, popped balloons tied to their ankles, made their own shields and helmets like those of the Roman wars, and after a walk through the halls of the Interactive Museum, they minted their own commemorative coin of the hours spent in Abritus. And the girls and boys of the 3rd “a” class also received their certificates for a successfully completed school year among the columns of the “Urbana” villa.
What is happening this week is another step in the museum’s several-year-old practice of being ever closer to children and introducing them to the rich tangible and intangible cultural and historical heritage of the Razgrad region – by organizing creative workshops on site with them or vice versa – on the eve of holidays from the ritual calendar of the Bulgarians – in the various museum sites, they should recreate the customs characteristic of the respective holiday and make Christmas and New Year’s cards, martenitsi and souvenirs.
“Thank you for the opportunity to meet history in a non-standard and very interesting way for children, to learn many new things for them, and to take home objects made by themselves”, she said after the visit of the last group of children to the museum the director of “I.S. Turgenev” school, Milena Oreshkova.
