Pupils from the first, second and fourth grades of “N.Y. Vaptsarov” Elementary School entered the Ethnographic Museum today.

The moderator of the extracurricular lesson on the traditions and rituals of Ignazhden was Snezhana Zhelyazkova, who welcomed the children in the yard with a pillow and survaknitsa in her hands.

“Our idea is to introduce children to the world of Ignazhden, which marks the beginning of the New Year’s rite”, said Daniela Gancheva, the ethnographer and deputy director of the Regional History Museum in Razgrad.

“If a good person /polaznik/ is the first to cross your threshold on Ignazhden, expect a fruitful and very lucky year in your home”, explains D. Gancheva.

And for this to happen, the guest crouches down next to a wooden trough with straw, walnuts and sticks in it and wishes for a blessing, holding a pillow over his head, which in the case of traps is a reference to the stars in the sky – the more there are, the more the chicks will be at home.

Like our ancestors, so today – with the help of imitative magic and performed ritual actions – all the children in the Ethnographic Museum wished for health and fertility in the family.
