The director of the Regional History Museum Tanya Todorova opened today and invited the residents of Razgrad to view the thematic exhibition “Illustrated Chronicle of the War and the Liberation of the Razgrad Region” dedicated to Razgrad Day in the Ethnographic Museum.

The exposition is a joint project of the Regional History Museum in Razgrad and the Historical Museum “Iskra” in Kazanlak and includes photo reports of military correspondents about the battles during the Russian-Turkish War of 1877-1878 in Bulgaria and in particular – testimonies from the battles in Razgrad area.

On the boards are copies of photo reports published in the “Illustrated chronicle of wars” supplement to the weekly magazine “World illustration” in St. Petersburg in 1877 – a pioneer in the creation of military photo reports in Russia, provided by the museum in Kazanlak, as well as boards with the chronicles of the military actions of the Eastern Russian Detachment in Ludogorie from the fund of the Razgrad Museum, said at the opening of the exhibition the ethnographer and deputy director of RHM – Razgrad Daniela Gancheva.

Two artifacts related to the liberation of the Razgrad area have a special place in the exhibition. The first is a gospel on the throne, a cross and a censer, related to the reception of the Russian troops and the service of vodosvet for health and success. The second is the large icon with a text engraved around it about the important event – a gift to the citizens of Razgrad by Russian senior military officers on the occasion of the anniversary of the liberation of the city, emphasized the director of the museum Tanya Todorova.

In the showcases are original Russian and Turkish weapons that have not been shown before: rifles, sabers and scimitars from the fund of the Razgrad museum.

On behalf of herself and the management of Razgrad Municipality, the chief expert in the “Culture, religious and youth activities” department of the local administration, Tsvetana Benonova, thanked the museum workers for what they have done for Razgrad, for their efforts to preserve its memory from antiquity to nowadays.

Municipality of Razgrad dedicated last year to Capt. Burdarov and the men of war from Ludogorie, recalled Benonova and announced that this one will be dedicated to the spirituality and culture of Razgrad. All the revivalists and their descendants today – the museum workers and the journalists – are the spiritual warriors of Razgrad, who defend the Bulgarian ideal and traditions, including the unique ethnographic group of trappers, Benonova also said.

She also announced news: some of the original lithographs from the war correspondents’ reports from almost a century and a half ago on our lands will be shown later this year in the Art Gallery.

The exhibition “Illustrated Chronicle of the War and the Liberation of the Razgrad Territory” is the first event of the holiday program dedicated to the 145th anniversary of the liberation of Razgrad and will be open until March 30, marking the national holiday of March 3. It is aimed at citizens and students, in front of whom lecturers from the museum will expand their knowledge both on the history of Bulgaria and on topics related to the homeland.
