A six-member team of specialists from the Regional History Museum in Razgrad participated with their stand in the “Roman Market of Sexaginta Prista” festival, held last weekend in Ruse.

In front of the thousands of visitors to the three-day forum, saturated with a rich program and attractions from the Roman era, director Tanya Todorova, archaeologist Silvia Anastasova, designer Mihail Marinov, head of the “Administrative and Economic” department Kalina Karbasheva, museum pedagogue Hristo Hristov and volunteer Nikoleta Petrova talked about Abritus, about the life and culture of the inhabitants of the ancient city, and presented the opportunities for visits to the museum’s sites: the Interactive Museum, the permanent archaeological exhibition and the house museums.

In the tent of the people of Razgrad, those who wished could change into Roman clothing – civilian and legionary – with mail, helmets and swords, buy souvenirs from Abritus, as well as the latest edition of the specialized book with original recipes “Roman Cuisine” and receive promotional materials from the museum.

The visitors to the stand were most impressed by the culinary surprise prepared especially for them – to taste a bite of the favorite bread of the master chef Marcus Apicius from the 1st century, and to take a sip of fragrant wine, prepared according to a special recipe from the 5th century.

“We are extremely pleased that we presented to such a wide audience of Bulgarian and foreign guests at the Roman Market the opportunities for access to the cultural and historical heritage of the Razgrad region. Our hopes are that this will become apparent even before this tourist season, in which we expect our guests to be much more than in previous years”, says Tanya Todorova, the director of RHM-Razgrad, in her assessment of the participation in the festival.

The bright presence of Razgrad residents at the forum is also evidenced by the fact that there were only three museums from the entire country: from Razgrad, Pavlikeni and Tutrakan. And the invitation came personally from the director of RHM-Ruse, Prof. Nikolay Nenov.

The original way of presentation did not go unnoticed by specialists from near and far. RHM-Razgrad received two invitations to participate in two significant events in the cultural calendar for the year in Bulgaria and Serbia.

The Ancient Heritage Festival “Eagle on the Danube” will be held on June 13, 14 and 15 on the territory of three municipalities: Pleven, Gulyantsi and Dolna Mitropolia – in the fortresses of Storgozia, Ulpia Escus in Gigen and Ad Putea in Riben.

The second invitation is from abroad – from the Serbian city of Sremska Mitrovica. The festival in the ancient city of Sirmium is in August.

The presentation of RHM-Razgrad at both festivals will be enhanced with more culinary delights from antiquity.
