With the exhibition “Awakeners and Memory”, the Regional History Museum celebrated the 45th anniversary of the creation of the “Stanka and Nikola Ikonomov” museum collection, 205 years since the birth of Nikola Ikonomov and 190 years since the birth of Stanka Nikolitsa Spaso-Elenina. The event was also part of the initiatives dedicated to the International Museum Day – May 18.
“The long history of educational work in Razgrad is connected with the educators Nikola Ikonomov and his wife Stanka Nikolitsa Spaso-Elenina – the first Bulgarian poetess and advocate for women’s education. Their memory and work are preserved here – in the house museum”, said the museum director Tanya Todorova in her speech.
The opening of the exhibition under the drops of the watering May rain was attended by Deputy Mayor Elka Nedelcheva, Deputy Regional Governor Nazif Zyulkyar, Stanka and Nikola Ikonomov’s great-granddaughter Temenuga Ivanova, the director of the Center for Student Technical and Scientific Creativity Tsvetanka Ruseva, the director of the “Stanka Nikolitsa Spaso-Elenina” Vocational High School for Clothing Elka Dramalieva, students and teachers from “Nikola Ikonomov” Primary School – the schools named after the Razgrad enlighteners.
A special guest at the ceremony was the author of the first exhibition about the life and creative path of the two Razgrad Revivalists, Siika Stefanova, a long-time curator at the museum.
“I am excited that this year Razgrad is celebrating a number of significant anniversaries. This shows that Razgrad is a city with cultural traditions deeply rooted in the psyche of the people of this region, which, to our joy, have been continued over the years”, said Deputy Mayor Elka Nedelcheva. She congratulated the museum specialists for the interesting events throughout the past week, dedicated to the International Museum Day on May 18. She wished that the exhibition would be visited by more residents and guests of the city, so that they “can go back in time and see the cultural heritage of these worthy Bulgarians, reflected in our days.”
Greetings to everyone were sent by Kalina Radoslavova and Nadezhda Docheva, graduates of the “Enjoy Music” Music School headed by Adrian Madzharov.
“The life and work of Stanka and Nikola Ikonomov is presented on 13 panels with photos and text: their works – Nikola Ikonomov’s book “Agriculture”, printed in 1853 in Belgrade and translated by his wife Stanka Nikolitsa. The highlight of the exhibition is the family tree of the Ikonomov family.
The literary festivals “Poetic Horizons of the Bulgarian Woman”, “White Nights of Razgrad” and the student journalism competition named after Grigor Popov were presented. The award established by the Municipal Council in the name of the Revivalist Nikola Ikonomov was shown, as well as the museum activities related to the preservation and presentation of their memory for the coming generation”, said Tanya Todorova.
And the curator of the house museum, Kristiyan Mladenovski, showed those who came to the opening of the exhibition the permanent exhibition inside the home of the prominent Razgrad Revivalists.
The exhibition “Awakeners and Memory” will remain open until the end of June, and at the beginning of the new school year its journey will begin, along with the other extensive exhibitions of the museum, through schools and institutions in Razgrad and the region.
