The week began with one of the most valuable discoveries related to ancient Abritus – the Golden Coin Treasure of 835 coins. After a screening of a thematic film and a talk, the children learned more about its discovery, its historical value and its significance for Razgrad. Immediately after that, a sports competition course awaited them, the final stage of which was a puzzle “guarding” the treasure. Finally, each participant made their own clay coin, which they took home as a souvenir.
The second day was dedicated to Roman mosaics. The little explorers learned how ancient masters created the impressive mosaic images that the Romans used. Then, each child showed their creative imagination, making a beautiful mosaic composition.
Wednesday transported the participants to the world of Roman theater, writing and music. The children learned part of the Latin alphabet and some of the most famous Latin sayings, which they wrote themselves, translated and presented to their peers. The atmosphere was complemented by performances of ancient melodies on the guitar by the program leader Hristo Hristov, which turned the activity into a real journey back in time.
Thursday was Roman Legion Day. The children learned more about the organization and armament of Roman soldiers, then demonstrated their agility in an archery competition. The finale was filled with lots of laughter and emotions during the specially prepared “battle” with tongs, which became one of the most fun experiences of the week.
The last day was dedicated to archaeology. With the guidance of the museum archaeologists – Dr. Vladimir Bekov and Silvia Anastasova, the children took on the role of real archaeologists. They carried out excavations, discovered various finds and described them in the way specialists work. Thus, they became convinced that archaeology requires not only curiosity, but also patience, attention and precision.
At the end of the week, all participants received certificates and awards presented to them by the Director of the Regional History Museum, Tanya Todorova. This time, they left with branded hats and other thematic gifts that will remind them of their experience at the museum.
