In front of the monument to the poet, publicist and revolutionary Hristo Botev, Razgrad residents celebrated his 177th anniversary today. Children from the school of the same name performed a short literary and musical program based on Botev’s poems, the highlight of which was the recitation of the poem “Hajduti”.
“The Bulgarian Renaissance is a time when Bulgarian literature and the Bulgarian urge for freedom reached their peak and Hristo Botev is one of those who both write and are revolutionaries. The greatest legacy that Botev left us is that deeds must always follow words”, said Kristiyan Mladenovski curator of the Regional History Museum in his speech at the celebration.
“This is precisely his place today – to stand up for what we say, to not forget that freedom is defended, that democracy is not a given. If Botev was alive today, perhaps he would tell us that we must maintain what we have and develop in every aspect, not to give up in the face of difficulties. This is precisely today’s challenge: the difficulties that the new world presents to us. I wish everyone: be healthy and follow the deeds and legacy of Botev – stand up for what you say and be free citizens”, Kristiyan Mladenovski addressed the crowd.
To pay homage to the life and work of the revolutionary poet in front of the monument were mayor Dobrin Dobrev, chairperson of the Municipal Council Galina Georgieva, deputy mayors Polina Ivanova, Zornitsa Evgenieva, Elka Nedelcheva and Habibe Rasim, regional governor Vladimir Dimitrov, member of parliament Dzhipo Dzhipov, municipal councilors, representatives of the Regional Historical Museum, cultural and educational institutions, organizations, political parties and grateful citizens.
