Holidays and customs from Roman life will come to life
At 11:00 a.m. on May 30, on the Theatron stage at the Regional History Museum in Razgrad, a reenactment of Roman festivals and customs will be presented.
The project entitled “We from Ancient Rome” is the work of teachers from the “Vasil Levski” Primary School: Tsveta Petrova – history teacher, and Nelly Nikolova – teacher, researcher of the past of Ludogorie, historian /until recently a museum specialist/, writer.
The reenactment involves 22 students from the four fifth grades at the school. The idea arose from the fact that fifth graders study ancient history, and in the final part, it is Ancient Rome.
Therefore, the teachers decided to give roles to the children in this historical production, so that they could feel the spirit, customs, and holidays of Ancient Rome. The scriptwriter of the reenactment itself is Nelly Nikolova, who, while visiting Italy with a reenactment years ago, managed to learn a lot about ancient Roman customs and holidays, and now wants to pass on what she learned to the children. She herself participated in the reenactment in Italy as a vestal virgin.
Viewers of the reenactment on the theatron stage will see interesting things – a ritual of lighting the fire from a torch with Vestal Virgins, they will learn a lot about the legionaries, the cult of the goddess Isis, the beliefs of the ancient Romans, and their customs.
Children have roles in the reenactment, which includes dancing, stories about Roman life, and there will also be many interesting facts about construction in Ancient Rome. Fun facts about the Romans will be presented.
The terrain, props and costumes for the reenactment were provided by the Regional History Museum – Razgrad. Museum pedagogue Hristo Hristov from RHM – Razgrad provided full assistance in the realization of the reenactment.
