In a series of publications, the Regional History Museum in Razgrad will tell about its givers over the past year – from the second campaign “For the Givers – with gratitude!”.

“Dozens of Razgrad residents responded to our invitation in 2024, and with their donation gesture, they enriched the funds with very valuable moments from our historical past, which, like bricks, build our family and ancestral memory – the foundation of our work as specialists”, says the museum’s director, Tanya Todorova.

Among the donations then were the extremely rich archive of Simeon Zahariev, the state awards of Marinka Angelova – the first female mayor of Razgrad, dishes made by the potter Eli Nedelcheva, many family and photos of significant events, household items, textbooks, materials, documents… You can learn details about each giver and what he donated by going back to the website and the museum’s Facebook page.

We begin the presentation of the new givers to the Regional History Museum with 23-year-old Denitsa Nedelcheva, who provided her native Razgrad with a 1:50 scale model of the Peristyle Building /Villa “Urbana”/ in ancient Abritus. The model of the talented lady, who graduated from the “Scenography” department this year at the National Academy of Arts, is her own creation from the third year of her studies in the capital – on an assignment for a theater in an alternative space with the right to choose the location. “There was nothing more natural than to stop at Razgrad. First – to introduce myself and my hometown, and also the fact that I had to work on the play “Leons and Lena” by Georg Büchner. Without hesitation, I decided that the right place for this play was ancient Abritus. To meet the needs of the performance, I used the entire Villa “Urbana” and parts of the fortress wall of Abritus. “I proposed that the scenographic solution for the play be a “promenade” type – the audience should walk in the space, follow the actors, and not sit in one place”, said Denitsa Nedelcheva. From the birth of the idea to the complete completion of the model, she had the full support of her head teacher – Associate Professor Marina Raychinova, head of the “Scenography” Department at the Academy of Arts.

Inspired by the extremely good end result of her work on the project, Denitsa decided to donate the model to the museum in Razgrad not only with the idea of preserving it. “Let this gesture of mine be accepted as a “throwing down of the gauntlet” to the Regional History Museum and the local Theater, Music and Harmony Center. “I have not encountered an alternative theater in the city’s cultural program. I would very much like the two cultural institutions to think in this direction. For me, the connection between history and culture is very important. The theater can unite and strengthen this connection. Razgrad has a very rich history. It can be shown and presented to the residents and guests of the city with the means of the alternative theater. Razgrad needs, and there is, an alternative space for theater”, Denitsa Nedelcheva revealed and expressed her hopes for her native Razgrad.
