On the occasion of the Day of the National Awakeners, the 5th grade students of the “Vasil Levski” Primary School – Razgrad visited the house museum “Academician Ananie Yavashov” on October 26. The initiative aims to familiarize the children with the life and multifaceted public service activities of one of the significant awakeners and researchers of Razgrad, who left a lasting mark on the study of the history, archeology and natural wealth of his native land. The curator of the house museum, Dr. Viktor Kostadinov, presented the students with the house museum, where the prominent Razgrad resident lived, and answered all their questions.

During the visit, the students learned about the life and achievements of Academician Yavashov through the documentary film “The Academician with the Stature of a Sage”. The film was created by Neli Nikolova—a teacher, historian, and writer—and historian Marina Boseva. Neli Nikolova and Dr. Viktor Kostadinov acquainted those present with key moments in the life of this prominent cultural figure from Razgrad. The students had the opportunity to pose questions they would have liked to ask Academician Yavashov; they received answers to these questions from Dr. Kostadinov.

Fifth-grade students had the opportunity to view original publications and valuable records documenting the scientific interests of Academician Yavashov and his contributions to local history. Among his published works, his “Botanical Dictionary” and the book “Razgrad: Its Archaeological and Historical Past”—published in 1930 and still a valuable source of information about the city’s history today—stand out as foundational to his scholarly legacy. Dr. Viktor Kostadinov, a curator at the house museum, introduced the students to the residence where this prominent figure from Razgrad once lived and answered all their questions.

To make the experience more engaging and active, each student received a specially prepared “Young Explorer’s Map.” Through it, the children tracked the key moments of the visit, discovered interesting facts, and gained an understanding of the significance of the preserved cultural and historical heritage.

The initiative transforms the observance of the Day of the National Enlighteners into a living lesson in patriotism, remembrance, and respect for those who dedicated their knowledge and labor to the development of their native region.
