On Friday, July 3, the first week of the Summer Educational Program “Adventures in Abritus”, organized by the Regional History Museum – Razgrad, ended. Over the past five days, young visitors to the museum have become true explorers of the past. This happened under the guidance of museum educator Hristo Hristov.
The day began on Monday with an introductory day. The children got to know the museum, the archaeological reserve and its exhibits, and through the educational game “Play and Learn” they discovered interesting museum exhibits and learned more about the history of the Roman fortress of Abritus.
Tuesday was dedicated to Roman fashion and clothing. The participants learned interesting facts about the different types of ancient clothing, after which they dressed up as Romans and enthusiastically participated in a fun game of limbo with the museum specialists.
On Wednesday, the spotlight was on gladiators and the spectacles of the Roman Empire. At the “Colosseum in Abritus”, young gladiators competed in an attractive competition, the goal of which was to burst their opponent’s balloon, demonstrating agility, speed and sportsmanship.
The fourth day of the program reminded of one of the most significant events in the history of Razgrad – the Battle of Abritus and the death of Decius Trajan. After learning more about this famous historical battle, the children made their own Roman helmets and swords, which they proudly took home as a souvenir of their Abritus experience.
Friday was dedicated to the power of the Roman Empire – its scale, territories and borders. The head of the program Hristo Hristov, with the help of geographical maps, told about the vast territories that one of the most influential empires in history conquered. After the educational talk, the participants embarked on a dynamic game with flags, in which they had to conquer the territories of their opponents. The day ended with many smiles and gifts for everyone – a certificate of participation, a branded notebook, a set of colored pencils, stickers with images of museum exhibits.
“Adventures in Abritus” continues with many more varied games and activities in the next educational week, when the themes will be the iconic Golden Coin Hoard discovered on Abritus, mosaics in Ancient Rome, theatre, writing and music in the Empire, the Roman Legion. Children will also learn what archeology is all about.
