A group of children from the Center for Working with Children in Razgrad, who are attending the summer academy, on June 25 viewed the exhibition of the Cherni Osam Natural History Museum in the “Ananie Yavashov” House Museum in the city.

They were led by the director of the Center for Natural History Daniela Kurteva and by the teachers Ani Rahova and Rumen Ivanov. The exhibition “Green Heritage from the Heart of the Balkans” presents the richness of the plant world in the region of the Central Balkan Biosphere Park and the Central Stara Planina through realistic models of plants made using the method of ceramic floristry. Immediately before visiting the exhibition, the children had a class at the Center for Natural History on the topic of Midsummer and the magical power of herbs, which had increased their interest in plants. The group was welcomed by Viktor Kostadinov PhD, curator at the Ananie Yavashov House Museum. He introduced the children to the initiative of the Cherni Osam Natural History Museum and presented the exhibition itself.

The children were intrigued by the presented flower models and asked if these were herbariums. Dr. Kostadinov explained that these were models of protected plant species, which were made of cold porcelain and fine clay, without baking.

In the courtyard of the house-museum, Dr. Kostadinov also gave a talk to the children about Ananie Yavashov, introducing them to his life and work. The children learned with interest that he was a botanist and studied the plant species in our region. Obviously, the thematically oriented activities in the summer academy of the Center for Working with Children are yielding fruitful results.

Ms. Daniela Kurteva stated that both the teachers and the children were very satisfied with the visit to the house museum.
