Known to generations of Razgrad residents, journalist and prominent local historian Bozhidarka Zlatareva donated to the Regional History Museum a personal collection of 151 postcards, collected by her throughout her adult life. She did this at the opening of the Second Local History Readings, part of the events marking International Museum Day.

“It is practically impossible to visit all the interesting places in Bulgaria in a single lifetime. I have been to some of them personally, but my relatives and friends helped me collect these 151 postcards, whether they were in a city or a memorable, significant place in our history, on duty or on vacation”, said Bozhidarka Zlatareva when presenting the donation.

The collection includes several postcards with views of Razgrad in the last century. Some of them have philatelic value because they have postage stamps attached and stamped on them, and these are dedicated to a specific event: the 100th anniversary of the Liberation of Razgrad or 100 years of Bulgarian communications.

The collection also includes two other curious postcards: of the first Bulgarian cosmonaut Georgi Ivanov /alone/ and with his teammate Nikolay Rukavishnikov in the “Soyuz-33” flight on April 10, 1979. The postcards feature the postage stamps on this occasion and a stamp from the International Philatelic Exhibition in Sofia in May of the same year.

On her own behalf and on behalf of her colleagues, the director of the Regional History Museum, Tanya Todorova, thanked Bozhidarka Zlatareva for her gesture and expressed her firm conviction that “a person with her professional biography can most accurately assess which of our way of life and modernity is a valuable heritage, worthy of remaining in the future. As a living connection and memory of our evolution as a community in space and time.”

“The collection will complement our funds and help us in our mission to preserve memory and pass it on to those who come after us. This rich collection will be presented appropriately to the people of Razgrad and all visitors to the museum”, said Tanya Todorova.
