On today’s Archaeologist’s Day, second-graders from “V. Levski” Primary School visited the Regional History Museum.
And on the occasion of their professional holiday, archaeologist Silvia Anastasova, with the help of the museum’s designer Mihail Marinov, had prepared a special surprise for them.

At the beginning, Silvia Anastasova told the children about the science of archaeology, showed them the tools and instruments that she and her colleagues use in their fieldwork, and then from antiquity, she transported them 1,000 years into the future with a challenge to recognize parts of objects from our daily lives today, which they discovered with their own hands 10 centuries after we left this world.

With undisguised curiosity, the girls and boys began their search and came across a variety of things: a glass ball, a perfume cap, a paper clip, a belt buckle, a domino tile, parts of a 3D print of the name Abritus, pieces of ceramics…

Then, like true archaeologists, they duly described them on special forms to hand them over to the restorers, who would then assemble the pieces into one complete artifact.

The children had a bit of trouble figuring out what kind of object some of the discovered parts were made of, but with the help of their hosts, they did great.

Silvia Anastasova vividly explained to them how something from our everyday life is now becoming history and a movable cultural asset from the past. She showed them her own mp3 player, which she used to listen to music when smartphones were not yet available.

But the children also managed to surprise their friends from the museum. They gave them a flower and a poster they made themselves with the wish “Happy Holidays!” and with photos and drawings of people and objects directly related to archaeology, including the Golden Pegasus.

And there’s no holiday without candy – there was a treat for the children at the farewell party.
