On October 26, on the eve of the Day of the National Enlighteners, students from classes I “V” and I “G” at the Vasil Levski Primary School in Razgrad embarked on a journey through time, accompanied by a special guest—Slavena Stefanova, a tour guide at the Regional History Museum in Razgrad.

The open lesson took place in the assembly hall of Vasil Levski Primary School. The initiative was organized at the invitation of the school, extended to the museum. Slavena Stefanova introduced the first-graders to the profession of a tour guide and highlighted that in the autumn, we celebrate one of our major national holidays—November 1st, the Day of the National Enlighteners.

During the presentation, the students learned a lot about Cyril and Methodius and the Slavic alphabet, Paisius of Hilendar, Sophronius of Vratsa, Ivan Vazov, and the great national heroes who fought for Bulgaria’s freedom – Vasil Levski and Hristo Botev.

The children took part in an interactive game—a festive crossword puzzle. Afterward, each child had the opportunity to write the first letter of their name in sand, just as children their age did in the past. To conclude, every child received a coloring page featuring figures of thе Enlighteners, seasonal imagery, books, letters, and various other objects associated with the holiday—all symbolizing a thirst for knowledge. The children were tasked with creating a collective garland from their colored pictures to decorate their classroom.

The curious first-graders, accompanied by their teachers Mrs. Miglena Kozovska and Mrs. Nevena Trifonova, learned fascinating historical facts with great excitement; finally, they experienced what it was like to be students during the National Revival period by writing letters in the sand.

The session concluded with smiles, inspiration, and new knowledge. The teachers and children from “Vasil Levski” Primary School extend their heartfelt thanks to tour guide Slavena Stefanova and the entire team at the Regional History Museum – Razgrad for their time, their attention, and for igniting a spark of curiosity in the children’s eyes!
