On January 12, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. in the hall of the Ethnographic Museum, a visiting exhibition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising will open. The exhibition contains ten panels that tell about the tragic events that occurred during the uprising in Batak in 1876. Personal belongings and weapons belonging to the rebel Varby Stoychev, the supporter volunteer Angel Kerelov, and other materials from the collection of the Historical Museum – Batak.
The main highlight of the temporary exhibition is the icon of St. Modest from the 19th century. The shrine was saved from the fire that broke out in the church of “St. Nedelya” – the last stronghold of the rebel population in Batak during the April Uprising.
The exhibition will be open to residents and visitors from January 12 to January 23, 2026, at the Ethnographic Museum, 13A Georgi S. Rakovski St.
