With a solemn ritual on January 6, 2026 and the presentation of wreaths and flowers, the Regional History Museum in Razgrad joined the city-wide celebration of the 178th anniversary of the birth of the great poet, publicist and revolutionary Hristo Botev.

A history written in blood and pen
Hristo Botev remains in the national memory as a symbol of the uncompromising spirit and the pursuit of freedom. His short but stormy biography unites the brilliant poetic word with the unparalleled courage on the battlefield. From his early years in Kalofer, through teaching and journalism in Romania, to the immortal feat with the “Radetzky” detachment, Botev charted the path of Bulgarian national self-consciousness. His philosophy “He who falls in battle for freedom does not die” continues to be a moral compass for generations of Bulgarians.

Tribute from the museum team
As a sign of appreciation for the work of the Voivode, representatives of RHM – Razgrad attended the official ceremony. Flowers were laid in front of the monument to Botev by:
Prof. Rositsa Angelova PhD – Head of the Department of “New and Recent History”;
Viktor Kostadinov – curator in the “New History” department.
The participation of historians emphasizes the importance of preserving historical memory and the role of the museum in transmitting Botev’s legacy to younger generations. “Botev is not just a thing of the past, he is the living conscience of Bulgaria”, the museum team shared during the event.

The celebration was also attended by representatives of the local authorities, cultural figures and dozens of citizens who bowed their heads to the feat of one of the greatest sons of the Fatherland.
