The marble votive slab “Thracian Horseman” stolen 29 years ago is returning to Razgrad and will be exhibited in the renovated Regional History Museum. This was announced during a press conference with the participation of the Mayor of Razgrad Municipality Dobrin Dobrev, the Administrative Head of the District Prosecutor’s Office – Razgrad Tihomir Todorov and the Director of the Museum Tanya Todorova.

Mayor Dobrev announced the launch of a European-funded project to reconstruct and expand the museum building, with the first floor being entirely dedicated to exhibition space. “It is our moral duty to make Razgrad’s cultural and historical heritage accessible to more people”, he emphasized.

The museum’s director, Tanya Todorova, thanked all the institutions involved in the return of the artifact, as well as the professor of archaeology in Grenoble, Jamila Shebra, who reported its appearance at an auction in Spain. Until the reconstruction is completed, the tile will be stored in the museum’s collection.

District Prosecutor Tihomir Todorov recalled that the theft took place in 1996, with a total of 24 exhibits stolen from the museum. According to him, there is a real possibility that three more of them will be returned to Razgrad by spring of next year.
