For the second time, the Regional History Museum in Razgrad organized a children’s workshop for painting Easter eggs. From April 1 to 3, 400 children from almost all schools in Razgrad from the primary education course participated in the workshop at the Ethnographic Museum.

Under the guidance of museum educator Hristo Hristov, the children prepared for the great Christian holiday of Easter for three consecutive days. In addition to painting eggs, the workshop also provided children with knowledge about Easter and other Christian holiday rites and rituals, through talks given by tour guides in the exhibition hall of the Ethnographic Museum, where the Easter egg painting workshop is also located.

Before the workshop, the tour guides introduced the children to the festive Easter rituals, the ritual Easter breads decorated with painted eggs. From these talks, they learned a lot about the Christian religion, about Christ and the Virgin Mary, and received answers to all the questions they were interested in.

After viewing the exhibition, the children settled in the workshop to learn practically how to dye eggs in different colors. Slavyana Tsoneva, organizer of “Economic Activities” at the Regional History Museum, introduced the students to the two main dyeing technologies – painting with a candle on the shells and dyeing with cotton. After the children’s workshop, one dyed Easter egg remains in the museum, explained Slavyana Tsoneva.
The head of the children’s workshop – museum pedagogue Hristo Hristov, emphasized the importance of this innovative way through which children learn a lot about the rites, rituals, and symbols of Christian holidays, especially Easter. The great interest in the workshop indicates that it is an adequate, appropriate way for children to study the symbolism of the great Christian holidays.
